SECCJJ provides legal services for our child clients at the Waterford Juvenile Court through the use of a team of an attorney and a child welfare advocate.
Our mission at Southeastern Connecticut Center for Juvenile Justice is to provide multi-disciplinary legal advocacy for our child clients in Juvenile Court and with the Department of Children and Families. We will advocate for the child’s stated position unless legally incapacitated or cognitively limited by age or development, in which case the SECCJJ shall report the child’s position and advocate for the child’s best interests. When appointed solely as Guardian ad Litem, we shall exclusively advocate the ward’s best interests.
Finally, whether advocating for a stated position or best interests, it is the paramount mission that we use our multidisciplinary methodology to counsel all clients and wards regarding appropriate and safe choices, realistic placement goals, encourage personal responsibility, and promote healthy physical, intellectual and emotional growth. For a good article explaning these concepts please see SECCJJ Cornerstone Article The Wholistic Advantage.
